How To Apply Sublimation Transfers

DIY Printz sublimation transfers work on polyester apparel and polymer-coated hard goods like tumblers, mugs, and more. Follow these four steps for vibrant, long-lasting results every time.

Step 1

Prep Your Surface

Apparel: Pre-press your polyester garment for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
Hard Goods: Wipe tumblers, mugs, or coated items clean — make sure the polymer-coated surface is free of dust, oil, and fingerprints.

Step 2

Position Your Transfer

Place the sublimation transfer face down (printed side against the surface).
Apparel: Align on the garment and secure with heat-resistant tape.
Hard Goods: Wrap tightly around the tumbler or mug and tape in place, or use a shrink sleeve for full wraps.

Step 3

Apply Heat

Apparel: Press at 385°F–400°F for 45–60 seconds with firm, even pressure.
Tumblers & Mugs: Use a mug press or convection oven at 350°F–400°F for 3–6 minutes. Always follow the recommended time and temperature for your specific substrate.

Step 4

Peel & Care

Remove the transfer immediately while hot — sublimation is always a hot peel. Colors appear fully vibrant once the surface cools.
Apparel: Wash inside out in cold water and hang or tumble dry on low.
Hard Goods: Let cool completely before handling — hand wash recommended for drinkware.

SUBLIMATION Transfer FAQ

Everything you need to know about ordering, applying, and caring for sublimation transfers from DIY Printz in Davie, Florida.

Sublimation Basics

What are sublimation transfers?

Sublimation transfers are printed designs that use heat to bond ink into compatible polyester fabrics or polymer-coated surfaces. They are known for producing bright, durable, full-color results that do not sit heavily on the surface like some other print methods.

What materials work best with sublimation transfers?

Sublimation works best on polyester garments and polymer-coated products. Light-colored polyester fabrics usually produce the most vibrant results, since sublimation ink becomes part of the material rather than covering it.

Do you offer sublimation transfers with no minimum order?

Yes. DIY Printz offers Sublimation Transfers with no minimums, making it easy to order one design, test a new idea, or buy smaller quantities without overordering.

Are your sublimation transfers available at wholesale prices?

Yes. We offer competitive wholesale pricing so small businesses, custom product sellers, and growing brands can order quality sublimation transfers at a cost that helps protect their margins.

What can I make with sublimation transfers?

Sublimation transfers are commonly used for custom shirts, performance wear, mugs, tumblers, tote bags, mouse pads, pillows, and other compatible personalized products.

Can sublimation transfers be used on cotton?

Sublimation does not work well on standard cotton because the ink bonds with polyester fibers and polymer-coated surfaces, not natural fabrics. For the best results, use sublimation on polyester garments and coated hard goods. If you need to print on cotton, check out our DTF transfers — they work on virtually any fabric including cotton, polyester blends, and more.

What size are your sublimation gang sheets?

Our sublimation gang sheets are printed 24 inches wide by whatever length you need. You can build a custom gang sheet with multiple designs and sizes on a single sheet, or upload your own print-ready file. This gives you full flexibility whether you are printing a few small transfers or filling an entire roll.

What file format should I upload for sublimation transfers?

For best results, upload a high-resolution PNG file with a transparent background. Make sure your designs are sized to the exact print dimensions you need and set to at least 300 DPI. If you are using our gang sheet builder, simply upload each design individually and the tool will arrange them on the sheet for you.

Are sublimation transfers durable?

Yes. When applied correctly to compatible materials, sublimation transfers are highly durable. The design becomes part of the product instead of sitting on top, which helps prevent cracking, peeling, or fading under normal use.

Why order sublimation transfers from DIY Printz?

DIY Printz makes it easier to order Sublimation Transfers with wholesale pricing, no minimums, dependable quality, and a simple ordering process. That gives both small creators and larger businesses a flexible option for producing custom products efficiently.
